Product that Leads to Oral Cancer and the Birth of Sick Children
Umut Sherik kyzy, an employee of the inter-district sanitary-epidemiological surveillance center of the At-Bashinsky district, spoke about the potential dangers of nasvai.
She explained that nasvai is made from tobacco seeds with the addition of smokeless tobacco components, leading to the formation of nicotine dependence. The consumption of this product can cause gastrointestinal diseases, oral cancer, and dental problems.
Many believe that nasvai is less harmful than cigarettes, as the latter are produced under controlled conditions, while nasvai is made by hand. The process involves using a special device to process the tobacco, after which the mixture is sifted and placed in a bag with lime for activation. The components used can vary, including tobacco, lime, ash, glue, and water. Consumption of nasvai made by someone with hepatitis can lead to the transmission of the disease through the product," she noted.
Umut Sherik kyzy also added that nasvai has a negative impact on the nervous system.
"The composition of nasvai is complex, and more than 50 percent of it includes tobacco. The main alkaloid, nicotine, affects the human psyche, causing dependence of both psychological and physical nature. Gradually, this leads to a deterioration in health. When consuming nasvai, a person feels relaxation and euphoria, but it also increases blood pressure and heart rate, while the brain receives insufficient oxygen, which can cause memory problems and increased irritability," she emphasizes.
According to Umut Sherik kyzy, the consumption of nasvai can also have health consequences for offspring.
"This product can cause burns and ulcers of the mucous membrane, oral cancer. The lime in its composition can damage the mucosa, leading to the destruction of tooth enamel and premature tooth loss. Consumption of nasvai also reduces the sensitivity of taste buds, which can lead to a loss of taste. Those who consume nasvai often experience increased salivation and changes in the function of the reproductive organs, which can lead to infertility or the birth of children with abnormalities," she concluded.
