Over the past two years, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been actively negotiating with Kazakhstan to abolish the "90/180" residency regime. This became known from the statement of the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Almaz Imangaziyev, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.

Deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed concern that some citizens of Kazakhstan are unable to visit Kyrgyzstan due to changes in legislation.

“People come to me with various situations. For example, if the husband is a citizen of Kyrgyzstan and his wife is a citizen of Kazakhstan, she cannot enter our country, nor can their children. Our citizens complain that their family members remain outside the country. Have you discussed the possibility of providing any benefits for close relatives or introducing family visas?” the deputy asked.

Imangaziyev responded that in 2023, Kazakhstan changed its internal migration legislation, introducing the 90/180 regime.

“From December 2023 to December 2025, the Kyrgyz side managed to avoid the application of this regime, but in December of last year, we had to agree to a parity regime. We continue negotiations with Kazakhstan to eliminate this restriction between our peoples,” he noted.

In addition, the deputy minister emphasized that the situation at the border is under control, and government agencies plan to take measures in the first half of 2026 for certain citizens who will not be able to enter Kyrgyzstan due to new legislative changes.

Almaz Imangaziyev also added that citizens of Kazakhstan only need to register their place of residence in Kyrgyzstan to stay in the country for up to one year.
