Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the most serious public health issues worldwide. According to statistics, more than 380 million people suffer from this disease, which ranks third in mortality among all diseases.

In the context of the high prevalence of COPD, self-management becomes particularly relevant. This approach involves the active participation of the patient in monitoring their condition, which includes tracking symptoms, making lifestyle changes, and seeking timely medical help during exacerbations.

During the conducted review, researchers analyzed over 60 publications from international databases such as PubMed, Medline, Cochrane Library, and eLibrary.ru, covering the period from 2000 to 2025. The study included Cochrane systematic reviews, GOLD clinical guidelines, and materials from the World Health Organization, as well as information on the implementation of digital technologies in COPD management.

The scientists concluded that traditional "COPD schools" are beginning to be replaced by modern digital solutions, such as mobile applications, telemedicine services, and wearable devices for health monitoring. The inclusion of elements of virtual reality and gamification has a positive impact on patient motivation and contributes to their adherence to treatment.

However, researchers also note the presence of several barriers to the implementation of these new approaches. These include low digital literacy among elderly patients, weak integration of medical data into electronic systems, and insufficient coordination between healthcare professionals and IT platforms.

The authors of the study emphasize that self-management is an important component in the modern treatment of COPD. They highlight key directions for Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, such as the development of national self-management protocols, integration of digital data into eHealth systems, and training of medical personnel in remote patient support methods.
