A resident of the Suusamyr Valley in the Chui region, Almanbet Mukhtarbek uulu, along with a neighbor, chased a wolf they encountered near a barn, ultimately killing the predator by striking it with sticks.

Almanbet Mukhtarbek uulu, born in 1993, is married and raising a daughter and a son. He shared the details of the encounter with the predator in a conversation with a Turmush correspondent.

According to him, the incident occurred at the Aigyr-Zhal wintering site in the village of Kaysar in the Suusamyr Valley. "Prior to this, the villagers had already mentioned seeing this wolf and had found tracks. In the evening, when I had driven the sheep into the barn and was coming out, I noticed the wolf nearby. I called my neighbor Daniyar Bekzhanov and suggested we chase it together. We had no weapons. We pursued it on horseback for about an hour and a half. I blocked the lower side, while he took the upper side, gradually narrowing the circle. When the wolf broke away from my neighbor and tried to climb the hill, it came out to me. I struck it on the snout with a stick, and it fell.

Then it got back up and tried to escape, so I hit it again. Daniyar arrived, and together we finished off the wolf. By its appearance, it was clear that it was very hungry: apparently, it hadn’t found any prey in the field and had come close to the barn. There is a suggestion that if we hadn’t stopped it then, it could have attacked the livestock. A wolf is not the kind of predator that is easy to catch: if you don’t chase it properly and act in unison, it won’t give itself up easily,” he reported.
Almanbet also mentioned that, in his observations, wolves regularly approach villages. “In Suusamyr, predators are active every year. There are seven villages in the valley, and in each, there are at least three to ten wolves in winter — they come close to populated areas. And in uninhabited places, there are even more. From what I’ve heard, since the fall of 2025, wolves have taken and eaten more than 20 heads of cattle and about 100 sheep. For example, my neighbor lost 14 sheep from his barn in one day. Those who have a gun and a permit go hunting. I haven’t received a hunting permit yet,” said the villager.

He added that a similar incident had occurred in his family before. “My father also killed a wolf without a weapon in his time — he said he chased it on horseback, and when the wolf hid at the base of a tree, he struck it with his stirrup. I even saw him bring a wolf home as a child, and he told me he dealt with it by hand,” Almanbet reported.
