Denis, originally from Pavlodar and raised in Ekibastuz, has lived in Almaty for the last four years. Biking became a part of his life about 11-12 years ago, and over time he began to cover increasingly longer distances.
The idea of the trip to Everest came to Denis in winter, after several years without major travels. “I wanted something truly epic, not just a regular hike,” he shared with the publication.
He explored numerous routes across Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, but none of them evoked the desired emotions. Ultimately, his attention was drawn to Everest, for which he needed about six months of preparation.
In total, the journey covered thousands of kilometers and six countries:
- Kazakhstan — starting point;
- Kyrgyzstan — complete crossing of the country;
- Tajikistan — the highest section of the Pamir Highway in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region;
- China — a small section of the route;
- Pakistan — full passage of the Karakoram Highway in Gilgit-Baltistan;
- India and Nepal — the final part of the journey.
It is noted that Denis covered most of the route alone and felt comfortable. However, closer to the end, he realized where his personal boundary lies.
“At first, it was nice to be alone, but closer to the end, I reached my limit of comfortable solitude. The emotions are mixed: excitement about Everest and a slight feeling of emptiness that the goal has been achieved,” he shared about his feelings.
