Secretary of State: The Formation of a Celebration Culture is Part of the National Search
According to State Secretary Arslan Koichiev, the process of forming a culture of celebrations and memorials in Kyrgyzstan is part of a public and national search. He shared his thoughts in the program "Elden Sobol," organized by the "Kabar" agency. Koichiev noted that in the context of prevailing traditions and customs in Kyrgyz society, it is impossible to quickly and completely abandon them.
“Changing traditions is a process that takes time. We live in a social context where customs play a key role, and they shape our nation. Traditions and customs form the foundation of our national character and identity,” he added.
The State Secretary emphasized the importance of active and meaningful discussion in society. “We must use this moment to achieve public consensus. If we manage to come to an agreement, it will be a testament to our mature society and nation,” he noted.
Koichiev also stressed that the draft resolution presented for discussion should cover as wide an audience as possible—from ordinary citizens to experts in relevant fields.
“If this becomes a step towards the development of national culture, it will benefit everyone. The participation of public experts, ordinary citizens, as well as, if necessary, philosophers and sociologists in discussing this issue is extremely important. The modernization of Kyrgyz traditions has been ongoing throughout the 20th century and continues in the 21st century. I hope that we can resolve this issue through consensus, avoiding extremes and pressure,” he concluded.
It is worth noting that the Cabinet of Ministers has presented a draft resolution for public discussion aimed at reducing wastefulness in the conduct of celebrations and memorial events.
