"‘The Current Anthem is Very Good.’ A Member of the Commission, Umetalieva, Expressed Her Position on the Options for a New Anthem"
The agenda included a project concerning a new version of the text and melody of the anthem.
Umetalieva emphasized that not everyone can write an anthem for the state. “I was surprised why the Jogorku Kenesh suggested that the people take on this task. Apparently, this was done so that people could see the entire process and participate in it. We have been observing this for almost a year, and although the public has actively engaged, none of the proposed options turned out to be ideal. An anthem is not just music; it is a kind of heroic expression for the Kyrgyz people,” she said.
In Umetalieva's opinion, the current anthem, created by Nasyr Davlesov and Kalyy Moldobasanov, was well-formed and conveyed to the people. “It is indeed good. The composers were trained in Moscow and acquired skills in the field of world musical art,” she added.
Three versions of the anthem were presented for the commission's discussion. The other proposals were deemed unsuccessful, and only the melody by Muradeli, written in the 1940s-1950s, deserved special attention. “Nevertheless, the tempo of this melody is not suitable—it should be more measured and march-like. The first two options are completely inappropriate, as they are intended for mass patriotic songs. This is my personal opinion,” she expressed.
Reference: Vano Ilyich Muradeli was a Soviet composer and conductor, People's Artist of the USSR, and a laureate of two Stalin Prizes of the second degree.
The national anthem of the Kyrgyz Republic was approved on December 18, 1992, by a resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.
The lyrics of the anthem were written by J. Sadykov and Sh. Kuluyev, while the music was composed by N. Davlesov and K. Moldobasanov.
White snowy peaks and valleys,
Equal to the spirit of our people.
For countless centuries, our ancestors have inhabited Ala-Too,
Preserving it for us.
Chorus:
Advance, Kyrgyz people,
On the path of freedom.
Grow and flourish,
Your destiny is in your hands.
From ancient times, the character of my people,
Ready to give their hearts to friends.
This unity strengthens the people,
Bringing prosperity to the Kyrgyz land.
Chorus
Fulfilled hopes and wishes of the people,
The banner of freedom waves high.
Let us preserve the ancestral traditions and heritage
And pass them on to future generations.
