In the USA, TikTok, YouTube, and Meta will be sued for harming children's mental health
According to court documents, the girl began using social media at the age of ten, despite her mother's attempts to limit access to such platforms through special programs.
The lawsuit claims that "the defendants design their products in such a way that children can bypass parental consent." It also states that the "appealing design" of Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat, as well as constant notifications from these services, contributed to the girl's addiction, coinciding with a deterioration in her mental health.
The plaintiffs are seeking financial compensation from the companies, the amount of which will be determined by the court. High-profile employees from the three internet services are expected to be called to testify in the Los Angeles court. Experts suggest that the outcome of the case could have significant consequences, as similar accusations against popular video platforms have been made before, but they have so far avoided serious legal scrutiny.
