The head of the President's Administration, Kanaybek Tumanbaev, published a comment on social media on January 26 in response to criticism from representatives of private driving schools. He announced the start of significant reforms in the driver training and licensing system.

Tumanbaev candidly acknowledged that in the past, driver’s licenses were effectively sold in a number of private driving schools, which in turn led to an increase in the number of traffic accidents. He emphasized that the situation on the roads raises serious concerns: according to data collected at the end of 2025, there is an increase in the number of accidents and casualties compared to 2024.

“When we get behind the wheel, we take on the responsibility not only for our own lives but also for the safety of other road users. Driving is a serious responsibility,” he added.

Tumanbaev also noted that the owners of private driving schools were informed in advance about the upcoming changes. According to him, the leaders of these schools were gathered at the "Yntymak Ordo" center to discuss the forthcoming reforms.

A key aspect of the reform will be the updating of the training system: the training of cadets will be carried out exclusively in driving schools under state control. Tumanbaev clarified that the changes are not aimed against all private driving schools—highly qualified specialists will be invited to work in the state system.

From mid-February 2026, applications will be accepted according to the new curriculum and approved standards. Tumanbaev concluded his speech by stating that the reforms are necessary to save human lives and assured that order will be established.
