Our People Abroad: 18-Year-Old Sezimai Ismailova Learned a Foreign Language in a Month Thanks to a University Practice
“Since childhood, I dreamed of studying in Turkey. Since the 9th grade, I gathered information about opportunities and actively participated in webinars. Even in the 11th grade, while preparing for the ORT, I did not give up on my dream, despite my parents' resistance: I prepared all the necessary documents and applied for the 'Türkiye Bursları' program. When I was accepted, my parents also agreed to my studying abroad,” she shares.
Sezimai noted that Turkey offers many opportunities for students and has a developed educational system. Here, they not only teach but also create conditions for comprehensive development.
“People in Turkey are very open and friendly; they are understanding towards foreign students and always ready to help.
The education system here emphasizes practical experience. Students can take advantage of numerous free courses, clubs, and various sports and creative events. The conditions provided by the university and the warm attitude of the locals made a strong impression on me,” Sezimai added.
She also noted that studying in Turkey has taught her to be more independent and responsible. In the new country, she was able to make friends from different corners of the world.
“After just a month, I started speaking Turkish fluently. I realized that being abroad, I represent not only myself but also my country, so I try to showcase Kyrgyzstan in the best light,” she said.
“As they say: ‘There are no bad people, only bad individuals.’ Initially, I lived in a dormitory with three Turkish girls. This was done specifically so that foreign students could learn the language faster. At first, I felt uncomfortable due to the language barrier and cultural differences, but over time, everything improved, and these difficulties made me more patient,” she added.
There are also Kyrgyz students at the university, with whom Sezimai sometimes meets and maintains relationships.
In her free time, she practices archery, goes to the gym, reads books, and writes poetry. Sezimai loves to travel and tries to explore other cities in Turkey, as well as actively participates in various free courses.
“My future goal is to successfully complete my studies, return to my homeland, and become a qualified specialist in the field of economics. I hope to apply the knowledge I have gained and contribute to the development of Kyrgyzstan,” concluded Ismailova.
