Roza Aitmatova, the sister of the famous writer Chingiz Aitmatov, has appealed to the authorities with a request to cancel the celebrations dedicated to the centenary of his birth. She suggested redirecting the budget funds planned for the celebration towards improving the lives of citizens. This became known from her statement published by the news agency "Kabar".
According to Roza Aitmatova, she predicts that there may be disputes in society regarding the appropriateness of using budget funds for the writer's anniversary events.
“I am sure that someone will say: 'The money allocated for Aitmatov's 100th anniversary could be spent on more important needs,'” she pointed out in her address. She expressed hope that this money would be better directed to support ordinary people, which would be a true memory of Chingiz,” she added.
The writer's sister noted that 17 years have passed since his death, but his name still provokes disputes and criticism in society. Roza Aitmatova urged not to disturb the peace of her brother's memory and not to tarnish his name.
“Chingiz should neither be praised nor condemned — let him rest in peace,” she emphasized.
Recently, debates flared up in society following an interview with former head of the Financial Police Syimyk Zhapikeev, who sharply characterized Chingiz Aitmatov's work, calling his works "mediocre" and "five-kopek." These statements caused a wide resonance in social media and the mass media.
