Local residents expressed their dissatisfaction, however, the deputies of the council supported the initiative
In the Issyk-Ata district of the Chui region, a procedure was initiated to rename the village of Dmitrievka to Esirkemish, according to information from the local administration.
As noted by representatives of the authorities, on December 30, 2025, a collective appeal from residents was submitted to the head of the village council, in which they requested to change the name of the village.
A public discussion, attended by about 250 people, took place on January 22 in the village itself. As a result of this meeting, the issue of renaming was brought to the session of the village council.
At the session held on January 23, the deputies approved the renaming.
Despite this, some residents of Dmitrievka expressed their protest against the name change on social media, claiming that it would lead to a loss of the village's tourist and cultural value.
