Due to the cancellation of visa processing in Kyrgyzstan, families are falling apart — Dastan Bekeshev
A deputy calls for changes in migration legislation
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev expressed his concern about the consequences of the abolition of the visa-run in 2024, which has led to many citizens of Kazakhstan facing difficulties when entering Kyrgyzstan, thereby creating serious problems for families.
According to him, there are numerous cases where families are separated: if the wife is a citizen of Kazakhstan, she cannot visit her husband in Kyrgyzstan, and children with Kazakh citizenship also face obstacles when crossing the border. Students also experience difficulties in coming to continue their studies.
It should be noted that in Kyrgyzstan, a law was passed in 2024 abolishing the visa-run—a practice that allowed foreigners to leave the country and immediately return to extend their status. As a result, entry is now only possible within strictly designated timeframes, creating new restrictions for many citizens.
“I understand that similar laws exist in Kazakhstan, but we must take human circumstances into account. Legislative measures should not destroy families,” noted Dastan Bekeshev.
In light of the above, he proposed to revisit the discussion on migration legislation and make the necessary changes to mitigate the negative consequences of the abolition of the visa-run.
