A deputy calls for the establishment of supplies of a life-saving medication to southern Kyrgyzstan

At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Zhyldyz Egenberdieva discussed the issue concerning patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, who urgently need the drug "Gleevec".

Since 2004, over 500 cases of chronic myeloid leukemia have been registered in Kyrgyzstan, with about 90% of patients being adults and the remaining 10% being children. This medication must be taken for life. Its supplies are carried out within the framework of a humanitarian program through the National Center for Oncology and Hematology, with the support of the European Max Foundation.

Nevertheless, patients from all regions of the country are forced to travel to the capital every month to receive their medication. They spend a lot of time in queues, and the costs for travel, accommodation, and food amount to between 15,000 to 20,000 soms.

In light of the above, the deputy requested the organization of Gleevec distribution at the Osh Regional Oncology Center or at the hematology department of the Osh Interregional Combined Hospital. This would significantly ease access to the medication for patients from the Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions.
