On January 21, at the age of 86, after a prolonged illness, Omor Sooronov, a renowned literary scholar and honored figure of culture in Kyrgyzstan, passed away. This information was provided by the press service of the Ministry of Culture.

Omor Sooronov, a poet and writer, was a member of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan and held the title of Honored Figure of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic. He was also a laureate of the State Prize in the field of science and technology, awarded the Order of Manas III degree, and held the position of honorary professor at the National University named after Jusup Balasagyn.

Omor Sooronov's birthday is celebrated on February 28, 1940, when he was born in the village of Gölögön, located in the Bazar-Korgon district. After graduating from secondary school No. 1 in Bazar-Korgon in 1958, he completed his studies with honors at the Faculty of Philology of Kyrgyz State University in 1967. His career began as a teacher at the Jalal-Abad Pedagogical College named after A. S. Pushkin. In 1969, he became a junior researcher in the "Manas" sector at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, and later held various positions at this institute, focusing on Soviet literature and the manuscript department.

From 1979 to 1981, Omor Sooronov headed the editorial office of fiction at the publishing house "Kyrgyzstan." In 1992-1995, he worked as a senior lecturer at the Kyrgyz State Pedagogical University named after I. Arabayev and held the position of senior researcher at KNAU.

His first significant award was received for the poem "Alykul," and his literary activity began with publications dating back to 1957. His first collection of poems, "Toolorumin zynaty," was published in 1971. In total, Omor Sooronov released eight poetry collections, including "Eki togolok" (1993), aimed at children and adolescents.

In addition to poetry, he engaged in literary criticism and literary studies, making significant contributions to the revival of forgotten works by poets and writers by translating their works from Arabic and Latin scripts into modern Kyrgyz. Among his publications are historical manuscripts such as "Majmu at-tavarikh" by Saif ad-Din ibn Damulla Shah Abbas of Aksikent and other works that were published as books.

Omor Sooronov also researched the "Manas" of Togolok Moldoo and wrote a monograph about its epic events, as well as studied the works of M. Elebaev, publishing a documentary story titled "Mukay."

He became one of the key authors of the two-volume "History of Kyrgyz Soviet Literature" (1987, 1990), the seven-volume "History of Kyrgyz Literature" (2004, 2005), as well as the two-volume "Science and Criticism of Kyrgyz Literature" (2005) and the fundamental work "Anthology of Pedagogical Thought of the Kyrgyz SSR," published in Moscow in 1988.

Throughout his career, Omor Sooronov published over four hundred articles in newspapers, magazines, and collections. His two-volume work "Word on Manuscripts" was published in 2009.

In 1995, on the anniversary of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan, he was awarded the title of "Honored Figure of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic," and in 2004 he became a laureate of the State Prize of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of science and technology for his contributions to literary studies. On June 5, 2017, he was awarded the Order of Manas III degree. Additionally, he was awarded the TURKSOY medal "Toktogul Satylganov-150" and other prizes.
