During an interview with the "Kabar" agency, Mayor Aibek Junushaliev commented on the situation surrounding the Old Bishkek investment project, calling it unique for the capital.

According to the mayor, the implementation of such a project represents a new experience for Bishkek. "For the first time, we have leased a plot of land underground, which has not been done before. The plot was put up for auction, and the rental price reached 7 million soms per year. The total cost of the project is approximately 2 billion soms. Although the implementation of such projects is complicated, I am confident that the work will be completed within three months," he added.

The mayor also responded to criticism from city residents who were puzzled as to why the city hall did not notice the construction of a third floor and the dismantling of the fountain near the Central Department Store (TSUM).

"These objects are not on municipal land. The plot with the fountain belongs to TSUM, and the building with the third floor belongs to GUM," Junushaliev explained.

"These plots are privately owned, and therefore we could not influence the construction process. We also had questions about this. The project authors provided their explanations, but since we are not professional builders, these questions were not properly addressed. After public discontent, we reviewed the old sketches and compared them with the current construction."

"Now we are bringing everything in line with the approved project, and our main focus is on the underground passage," the mayor concluded.
