A concerned mother reached out to the Kaktus.media editorial office, expressing her thoughts on the excessive weight of textbooks and workbooks for second graders studying under the 12-year program.

As she explained, the weight of the set of textbooks and workbooks reaches about 4 kilograms, and when considering the backpack, the total weight exceeds 5 kg.

She noted: "With a schedule of four lessons — mathematics, 'Me and the World', Kyrgyz language, and reading — a child needs to carry textbooks, workbooks, regular notebooks, separate notebooks for vocabulary, a diary, and a pencil case." The mother emphasizes that such a load is excessive for seven-year-old children.

In this regard, she proposed the need to reconsider the approach to educational materials, including the possibility of transitioning to digital versions of textbooks. "It would be better if the books became digital, and children used tablets, rather than carrying such heavy backpacks every day," she expressed her opinion.

It should also be noted that the problem of heavy backpacks is observed in public transport, where passengers often express dissatisfaction with the large size and weight of students' backpacks, which effectively take up an entire seat on buses.
