The mayor explained why they abandoned the idea of constructing overhead bridges on Aitmatov Avenue.
One of the main reasons for changing the decision was the inconsistency of the overhead structures with the "Clean Sky" concept. The mayor noted that all hanging wires and other elements must be dismantled to preserve the panorama of the mountains.
Junushaliev added that public criticism played an important role in changing the initial plans, as the view of the mountains while driving along the avenue could be spoiled.
He also acknowledged that the construction of underground crossings is a complex task, as such facilities have not been built in Bishkek during the post-Soviet period due to a lack of necessary specialists and experience. However, an experimental project was implemented, based on which work on the remaining crossings began.
It should be noted that after the reconstruction, all pedestrian crossings disappeared on Chingiz Aitmatov Avenue. Initially, there were reports of plans to build an overhead crossing, but it later became clear that the site for construction had been dismantled. The Bishkek city hall did not comment on further changes, but it later became known about plans to construct underground crossings.
