In 2026, Bishkek is expecting a large-scale planting initiative — 50,000 seedlings are planned to be planted. This information was announced by the city's mayor, Aibek Junushaliev, in a podcast by the "Kabar" agency.
According to the mayor, the necessary contracts have already been signed, and the first batch of seedlings will arrive in Bishkek in February. "Initially, we do not plan to plant the seedlings in urban areas. They will be placed in a nursery where we will assess their ability to adapt, survive, and grow. In 2025, we imported 1,500 trees and planted them in the nursery, but unfortunately, all of them died. Based on this experience, we decided to conduct selection in the nursery first, and then, if the seedlings show good results, plant them in the city," Junushaliev added.
