The Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh approved the bills on gender equality and the judicial system
The initiatives are aimed at ensuring equal rights for men and women, as well as improving representation in the judicial system.
On January 20, the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh responsible for constitutional legislation and local self-government held the second reading of two bills concerning gender equality and the judicial system.
The first bill amends the laws on the Justice Council, the Supreme Court, and local courts. The second document aims to ensure equal opportunities for men and women.
Kamila Talieva, one of the initiators of the proposals, noted that the changes are aimed at creating equal conditions for citizens regardless of gender in areas such as politics, economics, and culture.
During the discussion, Kubanychbek Samakov emphasized that the most important criterion for appointing judges should remain their professional competence. At the same time, Chyngyz Ajibaev pointed out the current state of the judicial system and called for support for the bills.
Aibek Moldakunov, the chairman of the Justice Council, reported that currently, 58 percent of judges in the Supreme Court are men, highlighting the need for a more balanced approach in the formation of judicial bodies.
As a result of the discussion, the committee unanimously supported both bills and sent them for further consideration.
