In 2026, Bishkek will purchase over 600 "short buses"
Active work continues in Bishkek on the modernization and expansion of the public transport fleet. The city’s head, Aibek Junushaliev, shared current information and plans for updating the fleet in a podcast by the agency "Kabar".
According to him, in 2021, an assessment of the city's needs was conducted, which indicated that approximately 2500 buses are necessary for proper passenger service. Currently, about 1436 units of transport are operating on the routes.
The mayor emphasized that there is a severe shortage of transport during peak hours—morning and evening. “We cannot endlessly increase the number of buses, as this could lead to traffic jams on the roads. The situation where 10-20 buses are simultaneously at one stop is absolutely unacceptable. We are trying to optimize the schedules to increase the number of buses specifically during peak hours while maintaining time intervals,” Aibek Junushaliev reported.
He also noted that in 2026, the capital authorities plan to purchase over 600 new "short buses."
