The Mayor of Bishkek, Aibek Junushaliev, announced in a podcast with the "Kabar" agency that the capital will have more than 20 new underground pedestrian crossings.
According to him, it was initially planned to construct three overground crossings on Chyngyz Aitmatov Avenue (Southern Highway), but the authorities decided to abandon this idea after criticism from the residents.

“Local residents expressed concerns that bulky structures would block the view of the mountains. As part of efforts to improve the city's appearance, we are also working on removing hanging wires. The construction of high crossings, for example, on Chyngyz Aitmatov Avenue, could spoil the view of the mountains. We took public opinion into account and chose the underground option,” the mayor explained.

Aibek Junushaliev also noted that since the collapse of the Soviet Union, there has been no experience in constructing underground crossings in the country. Therefore, the city hall conducted research and chose a modern block technology for the project implementation. The first four crossings cost the city budget between 32-34 million soms.

It should be noted that the structures will be assembled from pre-manufactured blocks that are delivered to the installation site. The first of these crossings has already been successfully completed.
