The world's largest sapphire found in Sri Lanka - 3,563 carats
This gemstone, named "Star of Pure Land," becomes the largest registered natural purple star sapphire in history.
According to Ashan Amarasinghe, a gemology consultant, the sapphire exhibits a pronounced asterism with a six-ray pattern, making it unique among other stones.
The sapphire was discovered in 2023 near the city of Ratnapura in southwestern Sri Lanka and currently belongs to the Star of Pure Land team. Members of this group preferred to remain anonymous for safety reasons.
