What happened?
In the summer of 2025, twelve students began the academic transfer process, following established legal and institutional norms. However, their student visas, previously issued by KSMU and Salykbekov University, were unexpectedly revoked without prior notice. The students shared: "We were forced to leave Kyrgyzstan and return to Bangladesh, and now we cannot continue our studies due to the lack of new student visas and invitations from the university, despite our good academic performance. This situation threatens our education, careers, and financial stability."
They also emphasized that medical education requires significant time, and a long break could lead to the loss of an academic year, increased financial burdens for families, and serious psychological stress for the students.
The students noted: "We complied with all academic and legal requirements, but we are left in a difficult situation due to visa issues that arose in August. We studied in Kyrgyzstan for two years and have never faced such difficulties. Previously, universities handled the processing of initial visas and their extensions. We do not know how to apply for a visa, as this requires the university's registration number," they added.
In this regard, the students appealed to the administration of the International European University for assistance in resolving the issue so that they could return to Kyrgyzstan and continue their studies.
Comment from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed Kaktus.media that according to Kyrgyz legislation, the issuance and extension of student visas is carried out only at the request of the educational institution inviting the foreign student.According to the Law "On External Migration," the responsibility for the legality of a foreign citizen's stay in the country lies with the organization that invited them. In the event of a foreign student's cessation of studies, including a transfer to another educational institution, there is a need to revoke the previously issued visa.
Once the foreign citizen leaves the country, the educational institution where they ceased their studies must submit a request for visa cancellation.
The process of obtaining a new visa can only be initiated after the cancellation of the visa at the previous educational institution is completed, based on the invitation from another educational institution where the foreign student intends to continue their studies.
Response from the International European University
On December 26, Kaktus.media sent a request to the International European University to clarify the status of the transfer of students from Bangladesh and whether documents for visas for the enrolled students had been submitted. The request was repeated on January 12, but no response has been received yet.Photo on the main page is for illustrative purposes: asia24.media.
