In the Issyk-Kul Region, an increase in the pheasant population has been recorded
If previously a significant number of swans wintered in Issyk-Kul, in recent years there has also been an improvement in the situation with pheasants, which had previously experienced a sharp decline in numbers.
During the winter period, pheasants require not only protection but also special care. They prefer to inhabit forest and shrub areas, and their diet mainly consists of sea buckthorn berries. In conditions of severe frost, there is a shortage of food, which is why special biotechnical measures are being implemented. In particular, nature conservation workers organize supplementary feeding for pheasants in their natural habitat.
These activities are carried out by the Ak-Suu District Department of the Regional Management of the Issyk-Kul Region of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the support of the local hunting community. Currently, these organizations are jointly engaged in feeding wild birds.
Experts note that over the past 4–5 years, the number of hunters shooting pheasants for recreation has significantly decreased. This is due to the tightening of accountability measures for harming nature. Currently, the main threats to pheasants are wolves and jackals, which leads to regular activities aimed at controlling predator populations in the region.
Ecologists and hunters emphasize that despite the harsh winter conditions, the feeding of birds will continue until spring arrives. The results of these efforts are already visible: during the autumn count in the Ak-Suu District, about 1,200 pheasants were registered, which is a positive trend compared to previous years.
