A unique nephrite weighing over 180 tons discovered in the Issyk-Kul region

In the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul region, an unusual stone weighing over 180 tons was found. It is located approximately three kilometers from the village of Chon-Kyzyl-Suu.

This discovery was made between 2013 and 2014 and immediately attracted the attention of both specialists and local residents. However, to avoid the risk of theft, the stone was buried. Later geological studies established that it is not jade but a type of jadeite, which nonetheless retains its value from both scientific and tourist perspectives.

Now, the find is being considered as a potential tourist attraction capable of drawing the attention of travelers to this region. Local residents have repeatedly expressed ideas about opening access to the stone and making it a natural landmark.

At a meeting of the district administration held on January 13, a decision was made to officially open the stone to tourists. On the same day, a winter festival "Ak Ilbiris" is scheduled to take place in the Chon-Kyzyl-Suu gorge at the Ak-Tash pasture. The implementation of this project has been entrusted to the Orgochor rural administration.

Currently, the municipal enterprise "Ishteman" is engaged in preparatory work using heavy machinery.

Jadeite is a general term for a group of minerals similar to jade but of lower quality, often with cracks and less saturated colors. This rock is used to create crafts such as figurines and vases, unlike jade, which is considered a precious stone.
