Storm Warning. Snow Avalanches Expected in Mountain Areas » Gazeta.kg

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan warns of possible snow avalanches and snowdrifts in the mountainous regions of the country from January 15 to 18. It is expected that precipitation during this time may lead to icy conditions on the roads.

In the following sections of the highways, the likelihood of avalanches is particularly high:

— Bishkek — Osh: 121-138 kilometers (Tuu-Ashuu Pass), 198-255 kilometers (Ala-Bel Pass, Chychkan Gorge);

— Ala-Buka — Kanysh-Kyya: 68-74 kilometers, 86-101 kilometers (Chapchyma Pass);

— Krasnaya Gorka — Ak-Tash: 0-3 kilometers;

— Myrzake — Kara-Kuldja — Alaykuu: 65-110 kilometers;

— Karakol — Enilchek: 45-90 kilometers (Chon-Ashuu Pass);

— Balikchi — Kazarman — Manas: 326-349 kilometers (Kok-Art Pass).

In this regard, the Ministry of Emergency Situations strongly recommends that drivers take precautions, including maintaining a distance of 500 meters between vehicles. It is important to closely monitor current information and strictly adhere to safety rules. If there is no extreme necessity, it is better to avoid trips to mountainous areas, as there is a threat of snow avalanches.
