American company Mattel has announced a new Barbie doll that exhibits signs of autism spectrum disorder, as reported by BBC News.

This doll has a gaze that is slightly off to the side and is equipped with noise-canceling headphones. These headphones are not just a decorative element; they help Barbie cope with external stimuli and feel more comfortable. Additionally, the doll has a spinner and a tablet designed for alternative communication, allowing her to express her thoughts and feelings without the use of words.
Barbie is dressed in a loose-fitting dress and flat shoes.

The creation of this doll was made possible through collaboration with the non-profit organization ASAN, which advocates for the rights of people with autism.

Previously, Mattel has released Barbie dolls with various disabilities: a blind Barbie, a doll with Down syndrome, and a Barbie suffering from type 1 diabetes.

This series of "special" dolls aims to broaden children's and their parents' understanding of the diversity of norms and characteristics.
