The Muftiate of Kazakhstan Recognized Deepfakes as Unacceptable According to Sharia
The fatwa emphasizes that Islam does not contradict scientific progress if it is aimed at the benefit of society and in the interests of justice and humanity. However, according to the clergy, deepfake technologies are often used to cause harm.
The DUMK clarified that, according to Sharia, it is unacceptable to spread false information and mislead people, including the use of technologies that can attribute words and actions to a person that they did not commit.
It is noted that deepfakes can cause significant harm to reputation, provoke conflicts, create an atmosphere of fear, and even pose a threat to life. Humorous deepfakes are also prohibited.
Muslims are advised to avoid such actions.
