Two Sisters Aged 6 and 7 Worked at a Landfill to Support Themselves: A Story from Their Grandmother

In the Batken region, in the city of Sulyukt, two girls, aged 6 and 7, were found to be forced to work at a landfill, reports Turmush correspondent.
The young sisters were collecting metal and other waste to help their grandmother.

As explained by Jazgul Ravshanbek kyzy, a specialist in the department for the protection of families and children at the labor, social security, and migration management of the city, both girls do not attend school.

She noted that specialists from their department, together with juvenile inspectors from the Sulyukt police department, regularly conduct preventive measures aimed at preventing child labor.

“In the city itself, cases of children being involved in labor activities and skipping school are almost non-existent. However, during the last raid at the landfill, two girls were found working with their grandmother. They are from the Lülü neighborhood (ethnic Roma), having come from Osh,” said J. Ravshanbek kyzy.

The girls' grandmother reported that her daughter had passed away, and she took on the responsibility of caring for her two granddaughters. Since the girls were not enrolled in school, they were earning a living by collecting garbage with their grandmother.

Employees of the relevant services held a conversation and warned that if proper care for the children could not be ensured, appropriate appeals would be sent to government authorities.
