One of the symbols of Mayor Myrzakmatov's rule is being dismantled
According to information from the city hall, the dismantling work is scheduled for January 8, 2026. "Barsbek-Kagan will be relocated. Initially, a place for its new location was determined, but another monument is planned to be installed there. Therefore, Barsbek-Kagan will be installed in another, yet to be determined location. At the moment, the monument has been temporarily dismantled, and it will be installed in a new place in the future," the municipality reported.
Currently, a two-level overpass bridge is actively under construction in Osh, which will connect Osmonov and Kokum-Biy streets. The length of the bridge will be 390 meters.
It was previously discussed that the monument to Barsbek-Kagan could be moved to the intersection of Kasymbekov and Razzakov streets during construction work.
Turmush previously reported that on September 10, 2025, the city hall of Osh held a meeting on Kasymbekov street, where the issue of relocating the monument to Barsbek-Kagan was discussed.
According to local authorities, during the expansion of Osmonov street and the construction of the overpass bridge connecting Aitieva and Kokum-Biy streets, the relocation of the monument to Barsbek-Kagan, located at the roundabout, was discussed. Relevant services have been instructed to develop a project.
After the relocation of the monument from the western side of the city, a two-level overpass bridge will be built on B. Osmonov street, which will connect Gapar Aitieva and Kokum-Biy streets. A sketch project has already been prepared.
Turmush also reported in October 2024 that the relocation of the "Barsbek Kagan" monument in the city of Osh is possible.
At that time, the capital construction department of the city hall presented the project for the construction of the overpass bridge for public discussion.
The monumental complex "Barsbek Kagan" was opened in honor of the Day of the City of Osh on October 5, 2011. The monument is located at the roundabout of the Kulatov microdistrict road and the intersection of G. Aitieva and B. Osmonov streets.
11 million soms were allocated from the local budget for the implementation of the project. The works on creating the complex were carried out by local sculptor Ravshan Mamatkulov.
The complex was built during the mayoralty of Melis Myrzakmatov.
The issue of relocating the "Barsbek Kagan" monument was also raised in July 2017, when Mayor Aitmamat Kadyrbaev voiced this initiative at a session of the city council.
This initiative was aimed at reducing traffic jams in this section of the road, where at that time about 99 thousand vehicles were registered in Osh. Between 150 to 170 thousand vehicles passed through the street daily. The bypass road through Kulatov and Aitieva streets was considered the only one in the city.
In response to this initiative, Turmush conducted a survey among the citizens. Some respondents opposed the relocation of the monument, others suggested improving its location, while some supported the mayor's initiative.
Drivers expressed opposition to the relocation of the monument and suggested moving the taxi stand, which provides transportation for passengers to Aravan, Nookat, and the airport, citing improper taxi parking as the main cause of the traffic jams.
