Citizens are urged to enable two-step verification to protect their accounts

According to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, criminals are taking over users' accounts and start sending messages to their contacts requesting urgent money transfers.

To protect their accounts from hacking, the ministry recommends activating two-step verification in WhatsApp. This feature will prevent linking the number to a new device without entering a previously set PIN code.

To enable two-step verification, users need to go to the app settings, select the "Account" section, then proceed to the "Two-step verification" option and set a six-digit PIN code. It is also advisable to provide an email address for account recovery, as mentioned in the message.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that the PIN code should remain confidential and not be shared with third parties. Citizens are also advised to avoid clicking on links and using codes or QR codes sent by strangers.

Following these recommendations will significantly reduce the likelihood of unauthorized access to accounts and leakage of personal information.
