At the fish auction in Japan, a bluefin tuna was sold for a record $3.2 million
At the first auction of this year at the Toyosu market in Tokyo, a bluefin tuna was sold for a staggering $3.2 million. The transaction amount was 510 million yen, and the weight of the fish reached 243 kilograms.

The fish was caught in the waters of Aomori Prefecture in the north. Interestingly, this price exceeded the previous record set in January 1999, when a tuna was sold for 333.6 million yen (approximately $2.9 million).

Local restaurateurs are willing to pay such amounts at the auction, driven by prestige considerations. There is a belief that acquiring the main lot at the first auction of the year can bring good luck in business.
