At the fish auction in Japan, a bluefin tuna was sold for a record $3.2 million

The fish was caught in the waters of Aomori Prefecture in the north. Interestingly, this price exceeded the previous record set in January 1999, when a tuna was sold for 333.6 million yen (approximately $2.9 million).
Local restaurateurs are willing to pay such amounts at the auction, driven by prestige considerations. There is a belief that acquiring the main lot at the first auction of the year can bring good luck in business.
