In Russia, the possibility of mandatory mediation in divorce will be explored
According to the publication, the government has approved a plan aimed at implementing family and demographic policy in the country.
This legislative project proposes a temporary suspension of civil proceedings during the mediation period, as well as the introduction of a mandatory pre-trial procedure for resolving family conflicts using mediation.
Additionally, the changes will include a mandatory initial meeting with a mediator as part of the pre-trial process, especially when it concerns children.
At these meetings, an authorized federal body will be appointed, which will take responsibility for developing and implementing state policy in the field of mediation, as well as for regulatory oversight and legal information. There are also plans to create a unified registry of mediators who will handle both family disputes and conflicts involving children.
It is expected that the implementation of this initiative will begin in 2026-2027.
