As reported by the director of the Jalal-Abad Regional Center for the Control of Bloodborne Viral Hepatitis and Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Elmira Satarova, large-scale rapid testing of the population for HIV is being conducted in the region.
“Since the beginning of the year, with the support of international organizations, our staff has been conducting rapid testing in crowded places — to identify HIV infection at an early stage and start treatment as soon as possible. To date, 1,481 people have been examined: of these, 154 are individuals providing intimate services, 74 are registered drug users, and 1,251 are ordinary citizens. Unfortunately, the infection has been confirmed in 7 people. All of them have been registered and referred for retesting. Testing will continue,” Satarova informed.
According to the latest data, there are 14,714 registered carriers of HIV infection in Kyrgyzstan. The highest number of cases is in Bishkek — 4,269 people, Chui Region — 3,557, Osh Region — 2,124, and the city of Osh — 1,497.
In the Jalal-Abad Region, the infection has been detected in a total of 1,710 people, in Issyk-Kul — 614, in Batken — 393, in Naryn — 316, and in Talas — 234.
In the Jalal-Abad Region, cases of the disease have been identified in all districts and cities. The highest prevalence is noted in the city of Manas, as well as in the Suzak, Bazar-Korgon, Nooken, Ala-Buka, and Aksy districts. Among the infected, 55.8% are men and 44.2% are women. Almost 70% of all identified cases (69.3%) are in the age group from 25 to 49 years.
