Paramedic Aiganysh Usupova has been working in the emergency department of the city of Naryn for over four decades.

In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, she shared that her experience in this profession spans 40 years.

Aiganysh was born in 1963 in the Kochkor district, and after graduating from medical school in 1984, she has tirelessly worked as a paramedic in Naryn since 1985.

“I have worked here my whole life, I have grayed and grown up. I love my job and try to help people as much as I can,” she notes.

One of the most memorable moments in her career was when, responding to a call in a village, she had to deliver a baby in the ambulance. “The most difficult part was that the baby was coming feet first. I was in a panic and felt an enormous responsibility. Fortunately, the delivery went well, and both the mother and the newborn were taken to the maternity hospital. After that, I went outside and cried,” shares the paramedic.

“On one hand, I felt joy, and on the other, fear and anxiety. That day will forever remain in my memory; such serious moments are not forgotten. Every profession has its value, and ours is especially important as it requires enormous responsibility,” she emphasizes.

According to Usupova, her ambulance team faces many different challenges.

“We respond to cases related to cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, and childhood illnesses. It is especially hard to see the consequences of traffic accidents... But in any situation, we provide assistance and transport patients to the hospital,” she adds.

The paramedic also noted that there is a problem among the population regarding late visits to medical professionals.

“Some patients prefer self-treatment, buying medications at pharmacies and not seeing a doctor until their condition worsens. This also applies to children, who are not taken to doctors in time and are treated at home,” Usupova pointed out.

She also emphasized the importance of accurate information when calling for an ambulance.

“When you call 103, it is essential to provide the exact address, the patient's last name and first name, their age, and current condition. This will help us reach quickly and provide the necessary assistance,” she explained.

In conclusion, Aiganysh Usupova shared advice for young people aspiring to become paramedics.

“A paramedic is a specialist with a secondary medical education who can provide first aid and make diagnoses. A person who chooses this profession must be educated, patient, and responsive, able to interact properly with each patient. Human qualities are especially important in this profession,” she believes.

“Working in emergency services involves dealing with critical situations, so it is critically important to make quick and correct decisions to save lives. A paramedic must also be able to provide obstetric care, deliver babies, dress wounds, and perform basic resuscitation measures,” Usupova adds.

“As I mentioned, when working with patients in serious condition and their relatives, it is necessary to be patient, composed, and compassionate, skillfully assess the patient's condition, and make timely decisions about the need for hospitalization or calling a doctor,” she concluded.
