Doctors from the health improvement center in Bishkek shared information about the signs of a stroke and its consequences.
According to specialists, this condition can occur unexpectedly, often leading to paralysis and posing a threat to life. If even one of the symptoms is detected, immediate medical assistance should be sought.
A stroke is an acute disruption of blood circulation in the brain, where the cessation of blood supply leads to damage or death of nerve cells. This condition develops rapidly, and within the first minutes, brain tissue begins to suffer, which can disrupt functions such as speech, movement, and memory.
There are two main types of stroke indicated by medical professionals.
Ischemic stroke occurs due to the blockage of a vessel by a thrombus or its spasm, leading to the cessation of blood flow to the brain.
Hemorrhagic stroke, on the other hand, develops as a result of a vessel rupture and bleeding in the brain.
Among the sudden symptoms indicating the onset of a stroke, the following can be highlighted: weakness or numbness on one side of the body, facial drooping, sudden severe headache, deterioration of vision in one eye, difficulty speaking, or complete inability to speak.
The risk of stroke increases against the background of diseases such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, heart disease, and diabetes. Contributing factors include excess weight, low physical activity, smoking, alcohol abuse, as well as chronic stress and emotional tension.
Medical workers emphasize that even the appearance of one symptom should be a reason to immediately call for an ambulance. It is important to inform the dispatcher about the observed symptoms. The first 3–4 hours are critical, as early intervention significantly reduces the likelihood of severe consequences.
