According to Irina Volgina, an associate professor at the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, the causes of dry skin can be both external and internal. She shared her opinion with the Lenta.ru agency.
Among the factors contributing to this problem, Irina highlighted improper skin care, climatic conditions, vitamin deficiencies, dehydration, unhealthy diet, and a number of diseases.
As for internal causes, she mentioned unhealthy eating habits, which include a lack of vitamins and minerals, as well as an excess of refined carbohydrates and trans fats. Additionally, a lack of fluids, including excessive coffee consumption without water, can worsen the condition. Smoking also plays a negative role, Volgina added.
Another important factor is diseases such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, ichthyosis, as well as diabetes and some issues with the thyroid gland and gastrointestinal tract. The expert emphasized that improper use of diuretics, retinoids, and other medications can also lead to dry skin.
