The situation with the oncology service remains critical, - deputy
World Cancer Day is celebrated on February 4, and in anticipation of this date, an important event took place on February 3 at the Oncology Center, where current issues of the service were discussed.
According to the deputy, approximately 6,000 new cases of cancer are recorded annually in Kyrgyzstan, among which there are fatal outcomes. Currently, about 35,000 patients are registered in the country.
Oncology ranks second in terms of mortality, second only to cardiovascular diseases, with 40% of cases being diagnosed at stages 3-4.
Baatyrova also emphasized the difficult situation with radiation therapy: to serve a population of 7 million, 20 linear accelerators are required, but only 3 are available, which often break down. "Moreover, a serious problem is the lack of molecular and immunohistochemical diagnostics," she added.
The deputy also noted that there are 80 essential medications missing, and palliative care suffers from a shortage of narcotic analgesics.
To improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, Baatyrova proposed creating a research institute based at the Oncology Center.
