The Minister of Health Kanybek Dosmambetov noted at the meeting dedicated to the results of 2025 that medical tourism has reached significant scales and represents a negative phenomenon.

He emphasized that many patients are forced to seek treatment abroad due to the low quality of medical services in the country. However, treatment outside of Kyrgyzstan does not always lead to positive outcomes — often, people do not receive the necessary help or return home without healing.

According to the minister, significant financial and time costs are not always justified, and patients sometimes remain without treatment both in foreign clinics and at home. Dosmambetov provided examples of citizens who sold their property or borrowed money, hoping for treatment abroad, but ultimately returned in serious condition.

“People return, but the time has already been lost. There are cases where a patient returns and actually dies,” he added.

The minister also noted that the issue of medical tourism affects not only Turkey but also other countries in the region, including Uzbekistan.

Kanybek Dosmambetov emphasized that one of the key tasks of his department is to develop the healthcare system in Kyrgyzstan so that citizens can receive quality medical care without going abroad.
