According to archival data, from 1899 to 1905, the first group of medical workers operated in the region.
In 1908, a military hospital was opened in the village of Przhevalsk, designed for 48 beds, where one doctor, two paramedics, and a midwife worked. Funding was provided from the local budget. The hospital had four wards, a reception area, a pharmacy, and a doctor's office.
Medical workers worked without days off and accepted patients around the clock. At that time, cases of smallpox, typhus, malaria, tuberculosis, and other infectious diseases were identified among the population.
According to the decree of the People's Commissariat of Health of the RSFSR dated July 2, 1925, free medical assistance was provided to government employees, their families, trade union members, military personnel, and disabled workers.

The head of the health department was Pyotr Ilyich Smorodin, and since May 1924, it was headed by Ivan Alekseyevich Lazhenitsyn, a graduate of Kazan University.
For many years, local hospitals employed doctor Voldemar Bekman and gynecologist Maria Yefimovna Khakhalyeva, who were married. Over thirty years of work in healthcare, they were awarded many state honors.
