The National Center for Oncology is facing a critical shortage of space, making the construction of new buildings necessary. This was reported by the Ombudsman Institute following a monitoring conducted at the medical facility. The study demonstrated that the workload on the center increases every year.
According to human rights defenders, the number of patients per bed reaches two, forcing some patients to receive infusion therapy while waiting on chairs due to a lack of available spots.
The Ombudsman Institute emphasizes that the situation is exacerbated by insufficient oncological assistance in the regions. For example, in the Osh region, there are only 15 beds available for chemotherapy and basic surgical procedures. In the cities of Jalal-Abad, Tokmok, and Batken, patients are primarily accepted with mild forms of diseases. In the Naryn region, oncological assistance is virtually non-existent, as there is not a single oncologist there.
Problems have also been noted in the children's oncology and oncohematology department of the National Center for Maternal and Child Health. As of the end of August 2025, about 60 children were being treated in the NC MCH hospitals, and the conditions of their accommodation leave much to be desired, highlighting the high workload on the department.
The Ombudsman Institute emphasizes that the lack of inpatient capacity and the uneven distribution of oncological assistance across regions create serious risks for timely and quality treatment of patients. This requires comprehensive solutions at the state level.
