Expert: Complex Data Protection Laws Can Be "Literally Harmful to Health"
He referred to the words of the head of one of the major clinics in Germany, who noted that "data protection takes more lives than infections in hospitals."
According to Detterman, doctors sometimes refrain from sharing medical data about patients due to fear of violating the law. "In medicine, there is a saying: the dose makes the poison. Anything taken in excess can cause harm. I believe that overly strict or confusing privacy laws can have the opposite effect," the professor added.
He also noted that legislation in Europe has become so convoluted that companies find it extremely difficult to comply, despite the intentions of lawmakers who want to improve the situation.
