A representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tarik Jazarevic, emphasized in his statement to RIA Novosti that the risk of further spread of the Nipah virus exists due to the insufficient study of this disease. According to him, the exact origin of the virus has not yet been established, but it is known that bats in some regions of India and Bangladesh, including West Bengal, are its reservoir.
He also noted that it is important to raise public awareness about the potential risks associated with the consumption of date palm sap.
