Nurlan Apsamatov, a 38-year-old resident of the village of Koshkorgon in the Chui region, is engaged in breeding Kyrgyz dogs known as Tazy.

He purchased a Tazy for 12,000 soms, and the very next day it won second place in a wolf hunting competition.

“In the winter, jackals can often be found in the mountainous areas and steppes of the Chui region. I often go hunting on horseback with my Tazys. Predators come down to the pastures and the outskirts of villages, which makes me actively engage in hunting. I want to show you a video I shot a few years ago. In it, my Tazys caught the scent of a jackal and immediately began to chase it, quickly driving it and surrounding it,” Nurlan shared.
Nurlan noted that he had been raising German Shepherds since childhood, and he started keeping Tazys only two years ago.

“We always grew up around animals. Anyone involved in livestock farming should have a dog. I raised German Shepherds because they are perfect for herding livestock. I got Tazys two years ago. I wasn't interested before, but after participating in the ulak tartysh competition, I became fascinated. A fellow villager often went out into the field with his Tazys, and they brought back caught wolves and foxes. This awakened my interest in breeding Kyrgyz Tazys. A man named Talai Shukurov shared interesting facts about Tazys with me. I didn't understand everything, but a lot of it turned out to be useful. So, I bought one Tazy for 5,000 soms, and later from Ulan Kulekeeva for 12,000 soms. The day after the purchase, he already participated in a salburuun in Tokmok. We registered and took part. There was a wolf on a chain at the competition, and all the Tazys, except for mine, did not react. My new Tazy started pulling towards the wolf, growling and lunging. When it was my turn, I let him go, and he immediately began to fight. I thought, ‘This Tazy has talent and courage.’ In the end, we took second place. Now I have four Tazys, and in the future, I plan to increase their number to ten,” Apsamatov said.

He was born on April 23, 1987, in the village of Koshkorgon, is married, and is raising six children.

“I have two daughters and four sons. The daughters are already grown. The sons are interested in my activities and want to engage in the Kyrgyz national game kok boru, as well as train in Kyrgyz wrestling (kyrgyz kuresh),” Nurlan added.
