Kubanich Barat uulu, a 31-year-old farmer from the village of Ming-Chynar in the Kadamjai district of the Batken region, has been engaged in strawberry cultivation for four years, which provides him with a stable income.
Although strawberry farming is rare in this region, he has managed to organize year-round production, harvesting both in winter and summer.
“In 2022, I underwent special training and in 2023 I built a greenhouse, inspired by an idea from neighboring Uzbekistan. We purchased all the necessary materials and gained useful knowledge there. Initially, we worked with the Korean variety ‘Sokhen,’ which showed excellent results. Now we have switched to the ‘Kabirello’ variety, the seedlings of which we brought from Osh. This variety is currently ripening. The greenhouse is equipped with a heating system using underfloor heating, and we heat it with coal, spending about 300 kilograms of fuel per day,” Kubanich shared.

He also noted that he used to sell his products in Osh, but now he sells them in stores in Batken. Currently, the price of strawberries ranges from 1500 soms per kilogram, reaching 2000 soms in winter, and dropping to 700-800 soms by April.

“Our greenhouse is equipped with a drip irrigation system, and its area is 10 acres. In addition, we have planted strawberries on an additional 90 and 15 acres, where the harvest will start ripening in April,” he added.

According to Kubanich, from 10 acres of the greenhouse, more than 500 kilograms of strawberries can be harvested, and from one hectare — up to 25 tons.
