Life in the Regions: Ulan Tölömüshov Amazes People by Breaking Ice and Swimming in the Lake in Winter
Ulan has always shown an interest in extreme activities and sticks to his choice despite warnings. He shared that his ancestors are from the village of Dolon, and he grew up in Karakol, graduating from secondary school No. 5 named after Narimanov. In 2015, he enrolled in an agro-technical college in Bishkek, where he obtained a degree in ichthyology, but he has not worked in that profession. Changes in his life led him to the field of automotive maintenance. Ulan talks about his love for extremes: “Until I turned 18, my parents forbade me from doing such things. Once I became a student and started living independently, I began taking cold showers for 15-20 seconds every day, and in winter, it also became a habit for me. I noticed that it is beneficial: it improves circulation, increases endurance, helps avoid colds, and strengthens the immune system. At the beginning of the year, when I had a break from work, I swam in Lake Dolon twice.”
Ulan is married and has a daughter. He also noted that he swims in Issyk-Kul and in natural water bodies during the winter. “I have been doing this since 2018. My parents and relatives worry about my health, thinking that I might get sick. But, thank God, that hasn’t happened. When swimming in Issyk-Kul, the wind and cold can create discomfort, especially when you’re looking for a towel to dry off. But in Lake Dolon, I felt safe; the shelter around allowed me to forget about the cold,” he added.
In his childhood, when Ulan suffered from throat illnesses, his parents would give him medicine, but now he prefers to drink cold water. Recently, he posted a video of his swims on social media, which surprised many, although for him, it is a normal thing. In his free time, Ulan tries to spend time with his family; they have managed to visit the Czech Republic, UAE, Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan.
