According to Ishak, the winter period poses the greatest challenge for breeding hamsters, which leads to an increase in their price during this time.
“I am a first-year student at Osh University. I always take my hamsters with me. My sister also breeds them separately. In winter, many do not sell hamsters due to the difficulties in keeping them. During this period, the price for one hamster can reach 450–500 soms. In spring, summer, and autumn, they are cheaper, as hamsters grow and reproduce faster during these times,” Ishak shared.
He mentioned that he and his sister breed Syrian hamsters.
“These hamsters are quite large, measuring 15–18 centimeters in length. They prefer to be kept alone. Syrian hamsters adapt to people more quickly and have a calm temperament. Their average lifespan is 3–5 years. With proper care, they can live 4–5 years indoors, while outdoors they live only 2–3 years. These pets can become excellent companions for children who often find themselves alone, helping them cope with loneliness,” Akmatjanov added.
Keeping hamsters at home is easier than dogs or cats, as they require less expense. Despite the variety of colors, the price does not depend on the color. Their main diet includes special feed made from seeds, barley, and wheat, as well as a small amount of vegetables—carrots and cucumbers,” Ishak noted.
