On April 1, at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Akylbek Tumonbaev proposed an initiative to revise the existing organ donation rules in Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that starting in 2024, with the support of President Sadyr Japarov, free liver and kidney transplant surgeries will be conducted in the country. However, according to Tumonbaev, the current rules limit donations to close relatives only.

The deputy emphasized that in some cases, patients cannot receive organs from their closest relatives due to various factors such as age, health, or other circumstances. This leads citizens to seek donors outside the country and request financial assistance through social networks.

In this regard, Tumonbaev suggested expanding the pool of donors by allowing participation not only from close relatives but also from distant relatives. In his opinion, this will help increase the number of available donors, save lives, and reduce the need to seek help abroad.

He urged the relevant agencies to consider making the necessary changes to the legislation.
