According to The Washington Post, the United States Department of Defense is developing possible scenarios for conducting ground operations in Iran. Options for limited special forces and infantry raids are being considered, which could last from several weeks to two months.
It has become known that the main targets of such operations could be coastal areas near the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the capture of Kharg Island, which is the largest export terminal for Iranian oil. Sources from the publication emphasize that this is not about a full-scale invasion, but rather targeted operations aimed at controlling strategically important facilities.
The White House confirmed that various military scenarios are being considered. Press Secretary Caroline Levitt noted that the Pentagon aims to provide President Donald Trump with "maximum freedom of action," however, a final decision on the initiation of military actions has not yet been made. It is worth recalling that on March 20, Trump himself stated that he does not plan to send American troops to Iran.
It is noteworthy that the majority of Americans view the idea of a ground war negatively. According to a poll conducted by the Associated Press, 62% of respondents oppose the use of ground forces in Iran, while only 12% of respondents support this initiative.
